Quick Guide to CyprusThe landscape of Cyprus is characterised by mountains and beaches. The mountain ranges of Troodos and Besparmak dominate the southwest, and northern coastline of the island respectively. Between the two lies a broad agricultural plain. There are many wonderful beaches distributed around the coastline of the island, providing superb facilities water sports like swimming, diving, fishing and sailing. Behind these lie the coastal areas providing all sorts of other outdoor activities: cycling, riding, climbing, and hiking. There are also National Parks open to hikers and picnickers all year round. As well as all the natural beauty, the island is steeped in history, once belonging to Richard the Lionheart, and also forming part of the mighty Greek, Byzantine, and Venetian empires. Many spectacular ancient remains survive across the island to this day. Following a civil war in 1974 the island of Cyprus has been separated into two regions, the Greek dominated south and the Turkish dominated north. A UN negotiated agreement in 2004 to reunify the island was accepted by the Turkish Cypriots but rejected by the Greeks in Southern Cyprus. Southern Cyprus is now a member of the European Union, but northern Cyprus is not, although it still has aspirations to join. Some buyers are put off purchasing property in northern Cyprus because of potential disputes over land ownership. Property Cashback only sells developments and properties where title he is fully established, documented and indisputable. |
